Women may experience a number of heart ailments. Heart attacks, varicose veins, stroke and hypertension are some of the cardiovascular diseases that are experienced by women. The effect of these heart ailments on women is different from that on men. Owing to this, differences arise in regard to the diagnosis, symptoms, its prevention as well as its treatment. Some details of a few heart ailments have been given below.

It has been found that more number of women fall prey to heart ailments as compared to men every year. In the United States, around five hundred thousand women suffer from coronary events that prove fatal. This number is more than that of men. Unfortunately, this number has increased over the years. A simple solution can be offered to tackle this problem. A new study has shown that walking can prove beneficial to prevent heart ailments. This method has been proved better than exercise. A weekly walk of about three hours can prove to be sufficient. This brings down the chances of experiencing a heart attack by around thirty to forty percent. Chances of a heart attack can be decreased by about fifty percent by a weekly walk of five hours.

A speed of about three and a half miles to five miles an hour should be maintained during the walk. Even if women have remained inactive for a long time, they can begin walking as soon as they can. A study has shown that even if women take up walking during their later life, they have fewer chances of suffering from coronary ailments. Two other important health concerns with regard to women are a high level of blood pressure and hypertension. These ailments should be treated as soon as they are detected. After the stage of menopause, the chance of heart ailments increases. This happens because the level of estrogen begins to reduce after menopause.

The fact that more women as compared to men die of heart disease is of serious concern. High blood pressure should be treated immediately. If immediate treatment is not given then damage to the kidney is possible. Failure to give treatment may also increase the chance of other heart ailments such as stroke or heart attack. In the United States the highest number of women fall prey to coronary heart disease. Hence, proper prevention as well as treatment is necessary in order to maintain a healthy heart.
